  1. Professor Jocano and I have corresponded on these things for several years and it is always a pleasure to read or listen to his observations and conclusions. This discussion shows the difficulty of delving into the cultural and historical aspects of FMA in particular and to other world martial arts in general. 'Armchair Experts' abound,of course, so one has to be both sensible and practical. Some points of interest are the fact that FILIPINOS in PANAHON NG KASTILYA (SPANISH TIMES) were sent to and worked in MEXICO, CUBA, LOUISIANA, CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA and also to SPAIN,where some important cultural exchanges took place, some of which involve martial arts if examined and researched more deeply. Theaw exchanges were briefly indicated in this discussion as well as some factors concerning the influence of Judo,Karate, Jiu-jitsu, & kungfu, which were not explored as deeply as they might have been. Nor was the relationship to Malaysia,Indonesia, Arabia, &n India examined. Also, some notions Americans have about Arnis and FMA were briefly discussed. I hope that everyone will listen attentively to this important discussion and interview and,of course, there is always more to be said. Keep up the good work.,HALFORD E. JONES
